Storm Flap

A storm flap is a length of fabric, often made with the fabric of the jacket itself, that helps keep entrances on the jacket, like zippers and pockets, protected from wind and rain.  Some jackets have just one storm flap on the outside; some have two exterior storm flaps; and some, usually on wind-resistant or windproof garments, have a storm flap just behind the main zipper.  Storm flap and draft flap are mostly interchangeable; draft flap is usually understood to be used on a jacket that is perhaps not fully waterproof, but just windproof or wind resistant.
